IMDB rating: 6.70

Plot: This is a gentle, innocent film about the reflections of an aging man (David Morse), who returns to his home town after the death of his best friend. Memories of life at age 11 floods back as it was a magical time that changed his life. Three 11 year old children (Anton Yelchin as Bobby, Mika Boorem as Carol, and Will Rothaar as Sully) share their lives. Carol & Bobby have a special affection for one another including sharing a kiss “by which all others will be measured”. Bobby lives with his mother (Hope Davis), a bitter, vain woman who looks for pleasures for herself without sharing much with her son. Into their lives comes a mysterious new boarder (Anthony Hopkins), who befriends the boy but generates distrust from the mother. As time passes, the man and boy share confidences and special powers are revealed. The man warns the boy to be on the lookout for the “lowmen”, who were seeking him. The two share a summer’s adventures and come to love one another before the inevitable happens. A confrontation with a school bully (Timothy Reifsnyder) also changes everyone.

What light-hearted, fun superhero comics are worth reading?
I’ve been looking for a good comic-book series to read lately, and one of the more recent ones I’ve come across is Invincible, which I found really enjoyable and stayed up for five nights in a row reading all the issues.

The thing I liked about it was that it was light-hearted and laid-back, not unlike the more political and gritty tone to comics these days (not to say the Ultimates wasn’t good). What was better was the fact that it was almost Silver-Age in style, with the most randomest of things happening every issue. (Like a Martian invasion here, an Atlantis marriage there, and psycho zombies all at once)

If any of you know of a good superhero comic that’s interesting, fun, and intelligent and worth your time, feel free to leave an answer.

Ooh, I would highly recommend "Madman" by Mike Allred. It’s got everything you’re looking for in spades! Smart and super-witty writing, awesome pop-artwork, really great characters, tons of laughs…with some deep philosophical undertones, and randomness to boot! Kinda hard to explain, but it’s pop-culture trappings with Silver-Age inspiration. I think you’ll have a blast reading it.

in terms of light heartedness. i guess spider-man is probably the main staple in that respect, although its obviously not always gonna be light hearted with such a large ‘franchise’ i guess u could call it. Deadpool is always fun to read. there’s like at least 3 jokes and 5 dead bodies in every page. lol. and although there’s a LOT of killing, the stories are almost never serious. like one of the current series Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth, where he is contracted by a terrorist group to obtain and protect the severed zombie head version of himself from a dinosaur island, whilst also a rescuing a smoking hot researcher chick working for the terrorist group from primative cave men and ANOTHER terrorist group. overall, its just a fun read, lol.
